Social services
The Association of Swiss Jewish Refugee Aid and Welfare Organisations [VSJF] is the social arm of the SIG. The social welfare office of the VSJF supports Jewish individuals and families in Switzerland that are often not members of a Jewish community. Furthermore, the VSJF supports, complements and advises the social welfare offices of SIG member communities in Switzerland.
The following services are provided:
Welfare
- Consultation and mediation between clients and the authorities
- Accompaniment, representation and support of clients in various administrative and governmental issues. This includes social services, tax authority, court etc
- Support in filling out tax declarations
- Qualified support in questions on social security law
- Examining and submitting of claims, complaints and forms
- Financial support in difficult situations. With members of Jewish communities, the support is coordinated with the social services of their community
- Debt counselling
- Psychosocial counselling for persons in difficult life situations and hardship
- Intervention in crises situations
- Mediation and conflict management
- Home and sick bed visits all over Switzerland
Mental welfare
- Mental welfare counselling for Jewish persons living in the German speaking part of Switzerland, recognized by the State Secretariat for Migration
- Jewish contact person for Jewish asylum seekers in reception and processing centres as well as at airports
- Support of Jewish passengers in check-in and transit area in cases of death and emergency situations at the airport
The social welfare office of the VSJF is run by Eran Simchi, M.A. in social work and psychological counsellor.
